Executive Headteacher
Welcome from the Executive Headteacher – The NSB Trust

The NSB Trust is built from an illustrious heritage; the first school, Northampton School for Boys was founded in 1541 by Thomas Chipsey in Bridge Street and moved to the present site in 1911. His fellow trustees included Laurence and Edward Manley, William Brightwell and Laurence Washington – a relation of George Washington, first President of the USA. NSB's House System is based on these four founding trustees - Brightwell, Chipsey, Manley and Washington.

In September 2023, The NSB Trust was delighted to open its second school which shares the culture, ethos, policy and practices of NSB - Northampton School (NS). Sited on the outskirts of Moulton, this represents a modern new build school with exceptional facilities. The extracurricular and enrichment provision at NS is also centred around the House System with the Houses named after founding Trustees (Peter) Bason, (Oliver) Harris, (Mary) Kay and (Morcea) Walker.

The facilities at both schools spectacularly combine both tradition and innovation as part of the ethos to ‘respect the past and secure the future', whilst our provision for the Arts and Sport provide an outstanding basis for students to flourish and maximise their potential.

The NSB Trust ensures that an inspirational academic curriculum is delivered for all students through highly effective and impactful specialist teaching based on insightful, evidence-informed research. The exceptional nature of the curriculum taught at both schools has been recognised externally by the SSAT (The Schools, Students and Teachers’ Network) as reaching its highest 'Transforming' grading for 'Principled Curriculum Design', 'Effective Teaching Approaches' and ‘Engaging with research and evidence’ - this grade is given in recognition that practice in these areas is amongst the most exceptional nationally. Students are given outstanding levels of care, support and guidance as they navigate their way through the progressive key stages in their preparation for future career pathways and both schools meet all aspects of the nationally respected Gatsby benchmarks for careers.

As part of the Trust’s vision, the staff within The NSB Trust are determined to build an unrivalled package of extracurricular activities which meet the interests and talents of all students. The Trust is built on the guiding philosophy that students who enjoy a rich and successful extracurricular programme show enormous pride in their school which in turn has significant benefits in terms of academic outcomes, behaviour, mental and physical health and overall attendance. NS and NSB consistently have the lowest exclusion rates and the highest attendance rates of all secondary schools in West Northants and are two of the top performing schools nationally in both these areas.

Proven academic outcomes for both schools are exceptional. NSB consistently tops the West Northamptonshire and National league tables for boys for GCSE and A level Key Performance measures. The latest GSCE Progress 8 score for the school was +0.95 which means that students are achieving almost a whole grade higher than their peers across England who had the same Key Stage 2 SATs scores as them - and well over 70% of all Year 11 students in 2026 achieved a Grade 5+ (strong pass) in both English and Maths GCSEs. NSB was also highlighted by the Government in 2026 for being one of the very top schools in the country for GCSE outcomes for disadvantaged students. The school has achieved an Average Points Score of above a B grade for every A level sat for each of the past three years with many students going on to prestigious university courses or apprenticeship routes including 14 students leaving to study medicine and 7 students going to Oxford or Cambridge University last summer (2025).

In March 2025, NSB received ‘Outstanding’ judgements across all areas of the Ofsted Inspection Framework: Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management, and Sixth Form. Inspectors praised how the “school has the very highest expectations of what pupils can achieve. The curriculum is aspirational for all. Pupils work hard and achieve exceptionally well.” They also celebrated how “pupils thrive because of visionary leadership and the shared commitment of staff to provide the very highest quality education for all pupils.”

This same culture of aspiration, ambition and excellence is also embedded at Northampton School. The academic progress of students at Northampton School is closely monitored and all three current year groups of students are demonstrating very similar attainment and progress grades in direct comparison to the same year groups at NSB – the highest current year group (Year 9) are on track for very high GCSE results in comparison to national expectations when they reach Year 11. NS students will have the same priority of entry (subject to meeting the GCSE entry criteria) into the NSB Sixth Form as Year 11 NSB students.

Both NS and NSB excel in terms of extra-curricular achievement. The vast majority of students at both schools participate in at least two weekly extracurricular activities and the vast programme of activities on offer at NS and NSB - including Sport / Expressive Arts / Debating / Duke of Edinburgh and many more – is designed to ensure students of all abilities can meet their potential and are encouraged to pursue their passions.

At the elite end of performance, both schools are shining at the very highest national levels. Recent sporting highlights have included the NS Girls reaching the U14 National Football Cup Final in 2026 (over 600 entries) and NSB First XV winning the National U18 Rugby Cup and Daily Mail League in 2026 which has resulted in a huge amount of media interest in the school and wider Trust. NSB are National Cup winners in water polo this year, County Cup winners in netball, cross country and football, as well as being National Cup runners up in basketball and U14 / U15 rugby. NS have also won a number of county / area titles in basketball / football and athletics. NSB has been ranked as either the top or second school in the country for competitive sport by the School Sport Magazine for the past 10 years (not including COVID years). Success in the Expressive Arts on the national scale is truly extraordinary - as an example, in Dance this year, both schools won their regional rounds and reached the National Final in 2026 of the Great British Dance off as well as enjoying sold out music concerts / shows and drama performances throughout the year.

Given the level of student success at both NS and NSB, demand for places at both schools is very high and we are actively looking to expand the Trust further so that more students in Northamptonshire and beyond can enjoy the benefits of an education within The NSB Trust.
