Professional Development
Vision
Across The NSB Trust, we are committed to building a coherent, contextual and evidence-informed CPD curriculum that examines the ‘best bets’ and supports staff to make ongoing and intentional incremental changes to practice - the 1%.
We offer a high-quality, evidence-informed and inclusive professional development programme that empowers staff at every stage of their career - ensuring expert teaching, visionary and principled leadership and the very best outcomes for students.
Our approach to professional development has been externally recognised and celebrated as ‘Transformational’ through the national SSAT Framework for Exceptional Education and has also been validated through our partnership with the Teacher Development Trust: “We were very impressed by the clear vision and ambition for CPD articulated by leaders. The idea that unleashing great teaching through quality professional development, which improves outcomes for students and allows teachers to thrive, is clearly understood by senior leaders in the design of their CPD programme.”
Our Evidence-Informed Approach
Our Trust CPD offer is rooted in a clear strategic vision, aligned with Trust priorities and individual school development plans. The CPD curriculum is underpinned by our 6 Core Principles of Expert Teaching, creating a shared language of expert practice across all of our Trust schools.
We draw on the latest research in cognitive science and effective professional development, ensuring that training focuses on what works best in the classroom - such as modelling, retrieval practice, adaptive teaching, formative feedback and purposeful questioning.
Our CPD Pathways
Our CPD Offer is carefully sequenced, offering structured pathways for staff at every stage of their career, including:
-
Early career and new staff induction
-
Teaching staff development
-
Middle and senior leadership pathways
-
Inclusion and SEND-focused training
-
Apprenticeships for both teaching and support staff
Staff engage in a blend of expert-led training, instructional coaching (including Steplab), curriculum coaching cycles and subject-specific development, ensuring sustained and meaningful improvement in practice.
Staff across The NSB Trust consistently report feeling well-supported, valued and proud to work within our family of schools, reflecting our investment in their development and continued expertise.
